There are countless events taking place all over the world that try to encourage diversity and inclusion. It’s important that we acknowledge the role of disabled people within society and try to take steps to help them feel like they are included.
Just recently, the Irede Foundation organised a charity walk. This Nigerian NGO focuses primarily on advocating for disability support and promoting awareness of disabilities to the general public. On Friday, the 8th of April, there was a walk designed to help create a greater understanding of the importance of disability inclusion.
Suffice it to say, the event was an important part of disability inclusion for 2023, with one foundation program associate having this to say:
“We want a society where everyone is involved and carried along irrespective of their differences and indifferences. We are walking for inclusion this year to ensure that people with disabilities are able to get opportunities, jobs, quality education, and other things that they should have.”
Events like this happen all across the world all the time, as many countries are concerned with disability inclusion and want to help as many people as possible feel like they are connected to the community around them. It’s very normal for disabled people to feel like they are not connected to society, which can generate a lot of problems moving forward because you have an entire section of society that doesn’t feel like it belongs, and this can lead to a lot of discontentment and almost a lack of real awareness among ordinary people.
As support workers Gold Coast, we are happy to see that there is a committed effort towards helping people with disabilities through increasing awareness of disabled lives and helping with inclusion. It’s very often the case that people with disabilities feel like they are not understood by the general public. In some cases, this is, unfortunately, true, as widespread education about the many challenges faced by disabled people can be quite lacking.
Events like these are good because they help promote inclusion and awareness. Ultimately, that is the responsibility that many of us have when it comes to people with disabilities. We have to educate as many people as we can about disability and how it affects people and make sure that everybody understands disability is not something to either be ashamed of or to stigmatise.
It’s definitely a difficult responsibility, but it is something that we need to make sure we do. With enough time and support, it’s possible to create a world where disability is not regarded as a bad thing or something to be kept to one side. Events like these help us to look for new and exciting ways to do things. It’s easy to see why this is such a great idea, and we hope to see more of these events in the future because they will definitely point to new and exciting opportunities to create more awareness of disability within the global community.
